Green and Seasoned Firewood

When cold New Hampshire nights roll in, there’s nothing like the warmth of a real wood fire. Whether you prefer to season your own wood or want logs that are ready to burn right away, NH Forestry offers both green and seasoned hardwood firewood — cut, split, and delivered across Alton, Wolfeboro, and nearby towns. All our firewood is sourced from our own local land clearing and forestry projects, ensuring every load is responsibly harvested, processed, and prepared for your home, camp, or business.

Quick Question: What’s the Difference Between Green and Seasoned Firewood?

Green Firewood is freshly cut and has a higher moisture content (typically 30–50%). It’s best for customers who plan to store and season their wood themselves. Green firewood costs less and can be dried naturally over 6–12 months for future use.

Seasoned Firewood has already been cut, split, and air-dried until its moisture content drops below 20%. It’s clean, easy to light, and burns hotter with less smoke.

Benefits of seasoned firewood:

  • Easier to light and maintain a steady flame
  • Produces less creosote buildup in chimneys
  • Gives off more heat per log
  • Burns longer and cleaner with less smoke
  • We season our firewood naturally — air-dried over time

Firewood Tips from the Pros

A little care keeps your firewood dry and your home warm!

  • Store off the ground on pallets or firewood racks.
  • Keep it covered but leave the sides open for airflow.
  • Green wood should season for 6–12 months before burning.
  • Bring wood inside 24 hours before burning for best results.
  • Never burn wet or freshly cut wood — it wastes heat and creates chimney buildup.
